Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

Fertilization with ICSI method is one of the IVF options and is used in severe forms of male infertility.ICSI fertilization is effective even after vasectomy, or with such congenital disorder as lack of ejaculatory channels.

How artificial insemination with ICSI differs from IVF?

ICSI fundamentally differs from IVF by the fact that for fertilization with this method (of intracytoplasmic injection) only one sperm cell is needed.

Preparation for ICSI

Mostly the steps of IVF and ICSI are the same, but there are some important differences. The fact is that during a standard in vitro fertilization procedure the goal of sperm remains the same as during the process of natural conception: to fertilize an egg independently. In this program selected by an embryologist sperm cell is injected into the oocyte cytoplasm using a microscopic needle.During the preparation for the procedure specialists use a special reagent that breaks protective egg membranes, due to which a sperm cell can easily penetrate inside.

How is ICSI procedure performed?

With fertilization using this method embryologist selects a sperm cell with normal structure, and immobilizes it by cutting off its tail.In order to perform the ICSI a sperm cell is sucked into very thin glass microneedle and injected into the oocyte cytoplasm.Oocyte at that time is held in place using a special microscopic sucker. The probability of damaging an egg during ICSI is extremely small and does not exceed one percent (if the preparation for the procedure is carried out correctly). However, this possibility is present, and that is why it makes sense to trust the conduction of the program only to highly qualified specialists. When choosing a clinic, focus on indicators of effectiveness of the procedure, experience of doctors, and scientific and technical equipment of the medical institution.

The probability of pregnancy after ICSI

According to statistical data, pregnancy after the procedure occurs in about thirty to sixty women out of a hundred. Thus, normal development of the embryo after its transferring into the patient's uterus is noted in 90-95% of cases, and the "children of ICSI" successfully come into the world.

Why is the cost of IVF different from the cost of ICSI?

When figuring out about the cost of IVF and ICSI patients are wondering what is the cost difference due to.We have already described the differences of these two methods above. It is clear that preparation for ICSI is more laborious, and the procedure requires additional manipulations. That is why the cost of this ART method is higher in comparison with IVF.

Russian clinic "IVF Center" has successfully applied intracytoplasmic sperm injection in such cases as azoospermia (absence of mature sperm cells in the ejaculate), oligozoospermia (reduced sperm count in ejaculate), asthenozoospermia in conjunction with oligozoospermia (reduced sperm concentration and motility), absence of fertilization in previous IVF programs.

The "IVF Center" clinic invites patients from countries near and far abroad, who need treatment of infertility with the use of ICSI.
